Rita de Alencar Pinto is an independent curator living in Brooklyn, NY. Over the last ten years she has curated exhibitions in London, New York, Athens, Brussels, Milan, San Francisco, Washington DC and has pending exhibitions scheduled in San Paulo, Brazil. Prior to working full time as a curator Miss Pinto worked for La Placa Cohen and Futurebrand, both branding and advertising agencies in New York, as an account executive.
Outside of her international curatorial activities Rita has developed a strong affinity and immersed herself within the nail art culture. She has an on-going nail party called Gettin' Nail'd and hosts events intermittently, as part of a larger project that she hopes to launch in 2012, called Vanity Projects.
VANITY PROJECTS LLC is a for profit gallery with a directive to exhibit high caliber programming by young but established international artists. The program will span all genres including site-specific installations, performance, and video. Breaking out of a traditional gallery model, VANITY PROJECTS, will take on a dedicated focus of presenting video in a unique context by the inception of the studio: a nail salon and mini-spa located in the basement of the gallery. The gallery program will exist outside of the studio project. "My vision is to activate a place that is normally very mundane and energize the art network to come together and have time and space to talk and share about their own projects".
Rita is a member of NADA, ICI, Creative Time and Performa Visionaries.
